As a surviver of abuse and violence this book means the world to me. Much like the main character, dancing became a life force, keeping me together. The author did an amazing job portraying the violence, fear, turmoil and heartbreak the main character and her family faces, all while still maintaining the character’s spirit and sense of self. Sparrow is a book that could change people’s lives, showing them that they’re not alone, they’re strong, and that they deserve respect and happiness in life. This book can’t help but impact the reader’s soul, even if you can’t relate to this story. I saw myself in the main character, and I have felt & battled what she has, even if it is microscopic in comparison. This book has left me feeling empowered, not alone, and in a way healed.
