I stopped reading this 48% of the way through the book.

TW: On-page emotional, physical abuse from a romantic relationship, off-page/past paternal relationship (the paternal relationship is more off page.alluded to), PTSD/OCD in reaction to past parental abuse.

Sparrow, a 17 year old ballerina, is in an abusive relationship with Tristan, who's notorious for being a bully, but is also super hot so when he accidentally runs into Sparrow, she agrees to go out with him. From there, the relationship turns abusive as he emotionally and physically abuses her.

This is my first problem with the book, how the relationship starts. I can't tell if Sparrow is an appropriate amount of naive over this popular jock despite knowing how he treated her and her friends, or if the introduction was just cheap and quick and as unbelievable as I think it is.

My main problem with this book is that we only ever see the abusive parts of the relationship. We get a quarter of a page that shows the manipulative parts of abusive relationships, when the abuser will be sweet and hates themselves for "having a temper" and promises they'll never do it again. We're only told that Tristan does that, and I don't think that's enough. Without a clear depiction of the entire relationship, I don't think it's good enough, especially for a novel aimed at teens

This book was really hard to get through with all the depictions of abuse, and I just couldn't finish it, even though I think I was just getting to the "after" part.
