The story of Sparrow is a tragic, yet heartwarming tale. At times, I found the plot to be too predictable; mainly the abuse Sparrow suffered. I did not like that the author switched point of views between Lucas and Sparrow, however I do understand it was a necessary choice. If Lucas's view had not been incorporated, the reader would not see the whole truth of what was happening to Sparrow. The limited perspective from Sparrow before the accident showed that Sparrow wasn't just lying to everyone else, she was lying to herself, and we wouldn't have seen that without Lucas's perspective. However, I did find the scenes at Lucas's grandmothers to be irrelevant to the story, and I was rushing to get through to see what was happening to Sparrow. I do wish that we would get more closure from Sparrow's perspective.
Overall, this was an enjoyable read and I would recommend it to fans of Laurie Halse Anderson.
