Sparrow is a ballerina, preparing to star in next year's performance of Swan Lake and finish her senior year of high school. Towards the end of her junior year, however, she has a meet cute with Tristan King, one of the hottest guys in the school. He may be hot, but he's also abusive.

The description for Sparrow is a little vague, and that's partly because there are secrets we don't discover until halfway through the book. Sparrow does things that initially don't make sense, but towards the end of the book, they make perfect sense.

Throughout this book, Sparrow needs to find healing--both from her abusive boyfriend and from the hurts of the past.

The story is told through the eyes of two narratives: Sparrow, as well as her dancing partner, Lucas. Lucas has his own hurts to deal with, and has to learn that he can't control everything, nor is he responsible for the hurts of others.

I enjoyed the book. There were a few times where I wanted to smash my fist into Tristan King's face. The book is a ballet book, and since I've never been a ballerina, I was able to take a peek into the world of dancing that I otherwise wouldn't be able to.

The ending was satisfying and somewhat realistic, although it was slightly heartbreaking.

You should note that Sparrow should have trigger warnings for abuse. If you have been a victim of abuse in the past, it might bring up feelings for you.

This book isn't my favorite of the year, but if you love ballet and are looking for a contemporary with secrets, this might be the book for you.
