First, I absolutely love this cover, even if I thought it was an ostrich at the very first glance. Lol. I think that was the initial draw with the black and white contrast and then the hint of pink. Gorgeous! The second draw was the pretense that it would be a deeply felt young adult novel. I had also hoped it would have a little bit more on the romance front, but it did have some intense relationships on various levels.
I don't want to share too much of the plot line, but it was relevant to today's young adult, as well as older adults. The author is competent and as a debut story, I was impressed. I liked the plot and what the author was attempting to accomplish. I only wish it had been a bit more evocative. I wanted to connect even more with the two narrators than I did. Overall, a well thought out story and one that I think many young adults will appreciate and enjoy.
