Written beautifully and a nice spin on a Fairytale...
Julie Dao truly knows how to write engaging stories based on fairy tales that take an all new direction and are unique. Sometimes with fairytale retellings they all start to mesh together and in return they are not as enjoyable. I love the Vietnamese folklore that inspired this story and all of the twists and turns throughout. While you don’t need to read Forest of a Thousand Lanterns to enjoy this story, I highly suggest it. Throughout the story we ate introduced to many characters that were featured in that first story.
This story flows so nicely and so wonderfully written. I suggest you read this if you like YA that features, a curse, star-crossed lovers, a villain, lots of adventure, and the lesson of forgiveness, I highly recommend you read this amazing story.
