Great bones, but a lasck luster execution.
This was really a hard book to get through, despite how short it was.
I really felt myself connecting to Bao. One of the biggest quotes to stand out to me in this novel was Bao's words to his mother...
"I think I'll always miss you, but maybe that's better than having you."
As an adoptee, who met their birth mother -- this quote hit me HARD.
Otherwise, the book struggled to keep my attention, and I found the story telling to be subpar to Dao's normal writing.
The relationship between the MCs was forced, and it really didn't make much sense as the story progressed. There was also a lot of really nasty things done and said that would have prevented that relationship from truly florishing.
