I gave four stars to the Song of the Crimson Flower. A Princess Bride Feel. I listened to this via audiobook and the rendering was well done. It has it all romance, family drama, fantasy, and magic. Bao and Lan travel together across the country and find a fondness for each other along the way. There is also a curse that they must solve in order to save Bao. Good plot. The relationship between Bao and Lao is very genuine and not as forceful or in your face like other romances. Bao's past with his mom and aunt is mysterious and riveting. This book is perfect for the beach, cabin, or car trip. The book cover art is very pretty. I like the dragonfly. This is an excellent novel and interesting story. Even though this book is in a series it was a good stand alone. I want to read the rest of the series by Julie Dao. She is a very talented writer. Enjoyable, adventurous, and exciting.
