I'm so happy to be visiting the world Julie Dao created in Forest of a Thousand Lanterns again! Song of the Crimson Flower has quite a compelling beginning, with likable characters in Lan and Bao and the mysterious Gray City and bloodpox. Dao's writing is so easy to read that I couldn't stop turning the pages. I also love the cover! It's stunning.
