I would like to firstly start out by saying that my review of this novel is completely based on my opinion. This is not a reflection of the author's writing or the story itself.
I wish that I could say that this retelling of a classic story was engaging for me but unfortunately it was not. Maybe the fact that it is a period piece was a reason why I was not able to connect with this book the way that I would have liked to. The book begins from the viewpoint of the youngest sister and the author does a great job of setting the scene for the reader.
Although the foundation for this story has been told before it many different ways, I feel like the way this author wrote this story fit more for a screenplay for a film. Or, maybe that is my desire to see a film that depicts this movie.
Anyways, the writing in this good but it failed to engage me for the long run. Hopefully I will finish it in the future and change my mind.
