I’ve not heard of this author before (K.J. Howe) but I do like her heroine, Thea Paris. Thea is the female version of MacGyver. She carries around a bag with an assortment of tools, rope, and food (she’s diabetic), just in case she gets into a rough spot. It turns out she finds herself in quite a few rough spots in her role as a Kidnap and Ransom expert. I’m sure the assignment of collecting and delivering two young boys, both former child soldiers from Africa, to their new adoptive family in London. The boys are tough and resilient, but fiercely devoted to Thea.

When the plane is hijacked, Thea finds herself, and her charges, in the midst of a kidnap and ransom nightmare in the middle of the desert in Libya. Apparently her reputation as a negotiator and protector is much sought after in the Gladio’s evil plans!

This is a fast paced book with short chapters, so you get into the habit of – oh just one more chapter – until the book is over…

There are also contemporary issues regarding middle eastern cultures and acceptance across all cultures. I will look for more books by K.J. Howe!
