☆ First of all, I initially knew nothing about the book except for the genre and the author. I thought it was a sci-fi book set in space with aliens and spacecrafts because the title was basically “Skyhunter”. But I was really surprised that it was totally different from what I thought. And I loved it a lot more than I expected. It was a very thrilling, action-packed and unputdownable read. I felt a rollercoaster ride of emotions. It possesses an explosive storyline that kept me on edge all throughout. An engrossing read from the beginning till the end.
☆ The story follows Talin, a Striker for their nation called Mara which is on the verge of being annihilated by the opposing nation, the Karensa Federation. They’re constantly fighting monsters called “Ghosts” created by the federation. Her hometown on the outskirts of the city was conquered when she was younger and that incident caused her and her mother to lose everything including her voice. Both of them immediately evacuated further into Mara where the people there ridiculed and called them invaders. But that didn’t stop her from her dream of becoming a Striker. I truly admire her for still trying to protect the same people who treated her like trash. She’s a very determined and strong-willed woman who fights to protect her mother and their city from being annihilated.
☆ Everything got a lot more intense when a soldier from the federation got caught in their lands. Under certain circumstances, he became Talin’s parter in battle. This mysterious, broody man is believed to hold the key in defeating the federation and stop their conquest.
☆ I loved the diversity of the characters. Talin’s mom is such a badass and a very inspiring woman. I admire Adena and Talin’s friendship and how they console each other during tough times. Jeran and Aramin’s relationship made my heart flutter! Lastly, I admire the heartwarming bond that their squad has.
☆ This book contained a lot of brutal scenes and warfare which kept me on edge at all times desperately wishing that no one in their circle would die. The battle during the final chapters was fantastic! I loved the thrill of it! And the ending! I certainly don’t know what to expect on the next installment.
