Skyhunter by Marie Lu is an adventurous fast paced, young adult novel that takes places during times of war. We follow the main character Tailn who is the best of the best, soldiers they have in the Mara. Not to spoil much of the story, but in the first five pages, her partner dies and she is forced to take on someone new. Yet, he isn't all that he seems as he is a prisoner of the Karensa and hopefully not a spy. Much to Talin's dismay, she starts to grow feelings for him.
After googling at the dust jacket and the inside cover, I first freaked out over the aspect that Lu wrote about a deaf main character. WITHOUT falling into the pitfalls of stereotypes and flaws. Like the rest of her novels, ALL of her characters were fully realized and developed, including the big scary villains that weren't all that bad.
If you need me, I shall be impatiently waiting in my pit of despair, looking for book two.
