1. Cover: The color theme for the cover is not exactly my favorite but I really, really like the bird motif!
2. Maps: Any great book has maps, okay? Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter etc.-that’s pretty much a fact. The written content of a book relies a lot on the reader’s interpretation. When it’s incorporated with a map or any kind of visuals, that’s like looking at the story from the author’s eyes. I love when we are given such an opportunity to combine both the reader and the author’s interpretation of the story in some way.
3. World building: One thing I'm keen to learn more about is the Federation, Outer City, Inner City and Ghosts, more so because my academic and research interests deal with discourse analysis and learning more about power and authority. I love reading about these dystopian world structures (and being able to draw connection to today’s not-so-dystopian structures ;) )
4. “a heart can grieve in silence”: This whole scene made my heart sink. Somehow, the first chapter itself was able to connect me so well to Talin's bond with Corian, I REALLY wanted the rule to not be true, for Corian to not face that consequence. For more reasons than one, I can relate to this quote on a personal level.
5. The excerpt ends on a cliffhanger, kind of. Makes sense and what a perfect hook to end on. I am really excited to know what happens next and how the story unfolds.
