If you enjoy young adult books and apocalyptic fiction, then Skyhunter is probably absolutely perfect for you. As much as I enjoy fantasy novels, including ones where a group of people have to unite to save their land or world, this one was pretty grim for me. It features Talin, a young woman that is an refugee from another community taken over by a dictator that wants the resources of the remaining lands and absolute power. Talin is an elite warrior, who along with several of her friends, fellow warriors, and an augmented prisoner she’s saved from execution, takes on a last ditch attempt to save their land of Mara. Replete with wastelands of the Early Ones, an elite class willing to subjugate refugees and Ghosts (essentially the equivalent of zombies), not to mention torture, death and destruction, this definitely falls on the darker side.
