Unique and intriguing
Luli Wei has been working in Hollywood since she was a child, hanging around the sets and getting odd acting jobs. When she turns eighteen, she is signed to a big company and sees firsthand the lengths that people will go to and the sacrifices they make to get what they want.
I know that modern day Hollywood is full of people like this: bad people who are willing to take advantage of young women (and men) and toss them out when they’re old news. I also know during the time this book takes it was even less regulated and there were more bad people in charge. Luli was a real force and a dynamic character who wasn’t willing (at least on some level) to put up with this. I love the subtle fantasy aspect of this book. Every time one of these things happened, it never felt out of place in an otherwise realistic story. Overall, I loved this story and give it 5 stars.
