This is my first book by Nghi Vo and I must say that I am pleasantly surprised. Definitely looking forward to reading some of her previous works, as I have heard great things about The Chosen and the Beautiful!

I went into this book with thoughts of The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, based on the book's blurb and a first look. I definitely got some of the same vibes as Evelyn Hugo, but this book is the much darker of the two! By far!

As I was reading I definitely felt as if I was getting an all access peek into Hollywood, media, and the entertainment industry. The sometimes good and often bad. Just when you think you know you realize you have no idea.

Magic, fantasy, immortality, glamour, racism, sexism, and sexuality. 1930's Hollywood. The Golden Era. Luli Wei's story and rise to fame will draw you in and have you furiously flipping pages and wondering just how far she is willing to go to get to her big break in the biz. Beautifully written. Four stars.
