Intriguing
I need more books with Chinese American characters in my life. So, coming across this book and reading it was a no brainer.
First, the cover. It gave me Great Gatsby-esque vibes, which makes sense considering it's about Hollywood. The grayscale definitely cued me into the moodiness of the book, or perhaps even the gray morality to come.
I loved the incorporation of magic into a historical Hollywood. It was so dark and magical, definitely a unique perspective that I was not expecting at all. You can bet I cued up Young and Beautiful by Lana del Ray to go with this haunting atmosphere.
Luli is definitely a morally gray character, but you can't help but love her and feel invested in her story. I love this idea and imagery of becoming a monster because it's frighteningly true. I loved it all and am now on the prowl for more books from this amazing author.
