When I first saw the cover of this book I quickly assumed it was non fiction. It's giving memoir vibes right off the bat.
Upon cracking Sins of the Tribe open I was instead met with a very moving story of a young man, Wally, who has a deep love for the game of football as well as his brother, Henry.
Sins of the Tribe is set in New Mexico and although the big focus is on college football the true heart of the story is one of brotherhood, childhood, domestic abuse, and stopping at nothing to make your dreams come true and your life one worth being proud of. Wally uses football as an escape from a less than savory home life but it soon turns out that football has its own share of struggles as well. The book feels like a metaphor for the bigger things in life. Football, and sports in general, may simply seem like a game to some people but what sports and football represent is something much bigger entirely.
