This is the first book by Lynda La Plante that I have read. I was really excited to read it. It seemed like a very interesting story.
This is the story of Dorthy "Dolly" Rawlins. She is released from prison, after spending eight years, for the murder of her husband. She meets up with some woman whom have been in prison with her. All Dolly wants is to get the diamonds she stashed before being arrested for killing her husband. But, all the woman she meets want a cut from the diamonds. She also has a detective after her, because he feels that she is responsible for his sisters death during the robbery of the diamonds.
I really enjoyed this book. It kept me guessing and interested throughout. With all the characters, although they had their problems, and were in prison for one thing or the other, you felt for them. Because they all had something in their past. That made them vulnerable. You slowly watch the woman begin to trust each other slightly, but only so much.
I was completely surprised at the ending of this story, and definitely did not see it coming.
The only thing about this story that I didn't like was the jumping from character to character so much. At times it made it difficult to tell what was going on. But it didn't take away from the story, and I really did enjoy it.
I would recommend this story if you like a good crime/mystery.
