The story may turn out to be interesting, but the male chauvinism bit turned me off

Over the decades I've moved from Barbara Cartlands to Nora Roberts, and have had the opportunity to enjoy many more in between as well. I relish the romance genre, and believe that at times, you need something light and frivolous, to perk you up.

Having said that, the excerpts from "Shark Edge" didn't quite do it for me though. The beginning was weak for sure. I agree it became a tad interesting as the plot moved on, especially with the entry of the murder linked with the male protagonist, Shark. However, the brashness and chauvinism of Shark's character turned me off completely, by the end of the excerpt.

The writers could have done more justice to the female protagonist's character, and they should have been more sensitive in the interactions between Shark and Abbi, towards the end of the excerpt. There's a fine line between arrogance as what was portrayed decades ago in "Pride and Prejudice", and the rich, arrogant businessman's sheer brash, women-demeaning behaviour that was apparent in the excerpt.

Unless the writers have made a herculean effort to turn Shark's character 360 degrees, and have ensured Abbi stands her ground till she's treated well, I don't think this would be an appropriate read for the modern man or woman.
