I’m not a K-Drama fan, but this book makes me want to start watching some! This story was so wholesome and sweet. This is told in dual POV’s between Hannah and Jacob.
Summer break has just started and Hannah is ready to have the best summer with her boyfriend Nate and their friends, everything is planned out for maximum fun levels…until Nate breaks up with her at the first party of the summer.
Hannah is one of the few Korean students in her school in San Diego and she has done everything she could her entire life to be more American-Korean, emphasis on the American part – she’s tried so hard to fit in. But suddenly all of her classmates are into K-Pop music and K-Dramas and she’s lost in a culture she should know.
On the other side of the world in South Korean, we have Jacob, star of the K-Drama everyone is obsessed with, but when he gets hurt it’s decided he needs to stay out of the spotlight for some time. Jacob, his mom, and younger sister all return to San Diego where they grew up to go stay with Hannah and her mom for the summer. The two families and former best friends Jacob and Hannah are reunited – but Hannah isn’t happy about this and tries to sabotage all of Jacob’s plans.
Hannah and Jacob eventually come to an agreement that she’ll take him around San Diego to check things off his summer bucket list, and along the way the two remember how much fun they had together as children.
I loved this second chance romance story! The two were friends but separated years ago when Jacob and his family had to return to South Korea for his father funeral, and then Jacob never came back. Hannah was hurt and didn’t know why her best friend had left her. Both Hannah and Jacob had believable reactions to everything that happens to them and thats what made me love this story – it all felt so real, but in a K-drama un-real way. Jacob is the star of a popular K-drama and while nobody expects him in San Diego, he can’t avoid the cameras and spotlight forever, something Hannah isn’t used to.
We also had a few brief chapters from both of their mothers who were of course meddling and trying to set their kids up to be together, as moms often do. The overall family dynamic was wonderful.
Seoulmates stole my heart and I wish I could read it again for the first time! This was such a cute story.
