I received a complimentary copy of SECRETS SO DEEP by Ginny Myers Sain from Bookish First for an honest review!

SECRETS SO DEEP is a paranormal YA thriller following a young woman named Avril. Avril’s mother drowned when she was young off the coast of Connecticut. It was ruled an accident but Avril has always had unanswered questions about what happened and only vague memories of that time. She has signed up to attend an exclusive theater camp there at Whisper Cove where she lost her mother in the hopes of uncovering more information and memories.

I have really been enjoying water related horror lately, so this book and its cover immediately called to me. I think the author did a really good job of building up the atmosphere of this seaside setting and raising a lot of questions for the reader about what happened to Avril’s mother and what is happening in the present day. Avril is a brave young woman faced with a lot of grief and loss and a few mysteries that need solving.

The reader must question what is really going on and how much is reality and how much might be in Avril’s head. There is a lot of creepiness with the weather and the dangers of the ocean, not to mention quite a few characters who raise a lot of doubts for Avril. I thought the author did well at piecing together Avril’s somewhat strange memories of the night in question and the reality of what really happened with slow reveals that keep you wanting to keep reading.

I have the author’s previous book still to read on my shelf, DARK AND SHALLOW LIES, and I am even more excited to get to that one now! SECRETS SO DEEP is out now!
