I would read it, especially with it being set in Hawaii

Of course, I am drawn in immediately because of the setting. The writer's style will either get old quickly or grow on me. The jury's out on that issue. For example, he says "as explained earlier", or something of that nature. And the narrative reads like it's right out of someone's stream of consciousness. I think I would like this book, so I would be happy to win a copy. I like the cover.
