My daughter and I were reading this as a buddy read. We both had the exact same thoughts on it: We loved the concept - A bookstore owner who moonlights as a private investigator and gives abusive men a taste of their own medicine.

The execution, unfortunately, did not work for us. We actually could not stand the heroine of this story. I suppose there is a fine line between confidence and arrogance. The MC was definitely on the wrong side of that line.

At the risk of sounding snarky, I have to say that I think the author created his dream girl within the main character: The perfectly toned woman at the bar that every man wants, rides a motorcycle, is feisty and kicks butt, cooks gourmet meals, quotes philosophy, goes for the nerdy guy, and did I mention she was super hot? Also, she accidentally starts a bookstore. Isn’t it fantastic when a booming business falls into your lap?

I’m sure the author put a lot of thought and effort into the story and perhaps there’s a good mystery in there somewhere. I suppose I did not get far enough to find it.

We’ve selected a different book for a buddy read and we’re placing this one on the DNF shelf.
