The opening chapter is in a bar. Told from a woman's point of view, she challenges the crowd with games of pool for money- and wins. A man eventually comes to the bar, and we get the impression that he is why she is there, but we are not sure what the significance is.
I love the writing style and how it really shows us with action and dialogue what is going on. It's a spare, slightly harsh style that I think is reflective of Nikki, the main character. Regardless, I want to keep reading to find out if it is reflective of her.
