The number of times I picked this book up and put it down is disappointing. I gave this book the good ol' college try but I simply struggled to connect with the MC. Maybe there is a point later in the book where the MC has a huge feminist realization that isn't super intangible and difficult to connect with. Arezu is cold and distant, which is fine if you're writing a plot-driven book...however, this book wasn't even remotely in the ballpark of having a plot to begin with. It's full of droning inner monologues and musings that left me wanting more (as in, maybe some humanity to connect with? Maybe that's too much to hope for).
I had so much hope for this novel as very intricate and important themes are addressed, except these themes are reiterated over and over to the point of exhaustion. A good book should leave you incensed when such an ardent portrayal of predation and abuse is exhibited. Unfortunately, the struggle to wade through clunky dialogue and superfluous writing made this difficult.
