I read the First Look, which consists of the first chapter, and I must admit that it could go either way. So far, there are enough interesting tidbits here to make me want to read the whole book, but there are a couple negatives as well.

First of all, the story takes a long time to get going. With so many books clamoring for our attention daily, each book only has the first 2-3 pages to grab the reader's attention. What do we have in the first 5 pages here? We have an info dump about Crache, about the architecture of the place Lexi is in, and then a detailed description of all the characters she interacts with. Was that really necessary?

Introduce the conflict, show us the stakes and make us empathize with the character so that we want to continue reading... then you can introduce us to the world they live in.

If I was just browsing for a book to read and happened to open a free sample, I would have abandoned it on page 5 and moved on. This book needs a good editor who will make it leaner and meaner.
