I love big fantasy; sword fights, battles, magic, I want it all. However, a lot of fantasy books focus so much on the mechanics of their worlds that I end up finishing a book without really knowing the protagonist I'm following. But that's not the case here.

Wallace really has taken the time to create a protagonist who feels real; she is fleshed out and is made up of more than the current slice of her life we are seeing in this book. She has a complicated backstory and Wallace isn't shy about letting us get to know what's going on in this character's head, or seeing her make the wrong choices.

In addition, there is a humor in this book that was bright and unexpected and really helps develop characters past their archetypes into something more grounded and realistic.

If you're a fan of big adventures, monster hunting, and great character development, this is the fantasy for you!
