For me, epic fantasy is always a difficult genre. I think that I went in to this preview not fully expecting to like the story, but I was pleasantly surprised that I found myself completing the sample. While I did find the writing to be a bit long-winded at times, overall I am interested in learning what happens next for Lexi. The Gens and Lexi's motto reminded me slightly of Game of Thrones houses and their mottos, but aside from that I thought the story had a great deal of originality to draw in a reader!
Also, the cover is interesting, albeit a bit dark and muddled. I think it would benefit from a better contrast to show more details.
