This book was a 3.5 star read for me, but I rounded up to a 4 for goodreads purposes. This book is hard to review - I enjoyed the actual story, the actual plot, but I was confused for most of the book with all of the spanish terms, foods, sayings and phrases. I had no idea what most of them were or meant and for me that disrupted the flow of the story. I had to stop to look things up, I had to ignore some words and make up my own and it was a bit much for me.

I understand that the book was written by someone who understands each of these things, but as a reader who does not, I wish there was an appendix of words/phrases for the non-spanish speaking reader. The overall story was good. The characters are flawed, the reader can't help but root for Lari and Pedro to end the feud and to become a couple. The reader could envision their moms standing in the street yelling at each other and it was fun to read about.

I wish that the book read a bit smoother and that there was less focus on the actual food items and more on the characters. The book was worth the read, but it's not a top of the TBR list read. Be warned that you will have to figure some things out if you aren't familiar with the terms. This reader really enjoyed the book but wishes there was more of a disclaimer. Overall a good read, but not the best.
