Sad, but sweet beginning
The death of Lari's grandmother sets the story in Salt and Sugar. Lari is known as "Salty" after she put too much salt in her mom's soup, a nickname given to her that she has not been able to put behind her. She is not a good cook, as many reminders show in the beginning. Yet, the feud between her family and a neighboring family creates the tension and romance that will (likely predictably) bring the two families together. Cute prose and I enjoyed the beginning of the story!
