It’s very easy to empathize with Lari, and this isn’t counting the grief at the forefront of the story so far. Carvalho tells us so much about Lari in 3 short chapters, she’s family-oriented, protective, considerate, sucks at cooking, intimidated by her mom, ashamed she can’t cook… she’s relatable in ways that make you say “that’s me!” but in ways you don’t want to be either.

That surge of courage to tell off the Molinas but instead veering so far left from her destination? So embarrassing, but dramatically engaging.

I do have one gripe, and that’s with the cover. I know that romance books generally have sweet and bright covers, so this is merely a preference, but it gives off the impression Pedro and Lari are teaming up for a baking/cooking competition and not against this business-threatening danger.
