Saint X was definitely a worthwhile read. Several reviewers mentioned that this novel reminded them of the Natalie Holloway disappearance, and I would have to agree.

The story is based on the disappearance of 18 year old Alison Thomas who was last seen on the last night of her family’s Caribbean vacation on Saint X. Her young sister, Claire, was seven years old at the time. Two native islanders are initially accused of Alison’s murder, but are soon released after an extensive investigation by local and federal authorities.

The following chapters take us to the present day in which Claire is now an adult. She continues to struggle with the disappearance and unanswered questions of her sister's death. Quite by accident, she finds herself in a taxi in New York City, and discovers that the driver is one of the men initially accused of murdering her sister on the island of Saint X. Claire becomes obsessed with Clive, and finds herself basically stalking him. This obsession starts to interfere in her personal life. Eventually, she manages to meet him, and a unique friendship/relationship develops.

The author, Alexis Schaitkin, does an excellent job of intertwining the various characters and timeframes in a way that is not confusing, but adds to the story.

The ending is not predictable and makes this novel a good read. I would definitely recommend it.
