While on vacation at a resort with her family on the Caribbean island of Saint X, Alison disappears on the last night of their stay. Several days later, her body is found on a nearby cay and two employees of the resort are arrested. They are released shortly after and Alison’s family goes back to New York without any resolution.
Years later, Alison’s younger sister Claire, who was only seven at the time of the disappearance, becomes obsessed with learning the truth of what happened on the island and the answer to the question—Who exactly was her sister?

This book started strong with vibes of the tragic disappearance of Natalee Holloway, both being 18 year old beautiful young women. This story took a lot of turns, and it told from many viewpoints. I was fascinated by Claire’s character, she was intriguing with her obsession in trying to figure out who her sister had been. The story was a slow burn that fell flat (for me) in the end.
