This started off VERY descriptive, almost overly so. I feel like they REALLY wanted you to feel like you were there in that island atmosphere, but it went on a bit too long.
Once you get passed that initial sensory overload, they start to tell the story of the family, and paint you a picture of their dynamic.
It slowly transitions into the mystery that you think the rest of the book is going to be about, which is where I say it wasn't what I was expecting. I thought I'd be reading a thriller, a murder mystery, something more along those lines. The story actually plays out pretty casually, and the main character isn't actually after those same answers either.
I feel like this is more along the lines of privilege, family, loneliness, emotions, etc. Not to say it wasn't a good book, but not the thriller I thought I was expecting.
