I had just finished listening to "Saint X" on audio book a couple hours before the physical copy showed up in the mail. I'll be honest, this book was NOT what I thought it was going to be at all. For those of you that think it's a thriller like I did, it's not. Not even close. And really it's not even suspense. It's a family drama/dynamics, coming of age story that examines privilege, race, grief, obsession & the bond between sisters with some "did he really do it?" vibes as well.
.
Again, being honest, at first I really didn't care for the book all that much. The first third just sort of drug for me & I just felt like there was just too much information given in some areas. Plus, like I said, I was under the impression this was a suspense/thriller, so I was like "Come on, now, THRILL ME!" But then it picked up a bit. Once I realized the type of book it really was (think "Everything I Never Told You") I started to enjoy it so much more.
.
The narrators did a phenomenal job with the audio book! An impressive 14 narrators! I really don't think the paper version can even give you as much of the atmospheric feeling that the audio version does & giving each person in the book not only their own perspective of what happened to Alison, but also their own voice. I ended up liking the book by midway so much more. I honestly think I might have DNF'ed if I was reading the physical version. This is why some books are just SO much better on audio!
