Going into this, I expected a mystery/thriller - sister runs into man suspected of her sister’s death 18 years after her unexplained death on the island of Saint X? Yes, please! However, I quickly found out that this is more about how that unexplained death altered the lives of her sister, family, and other people on the island. It is every much a slow burning, character driven story, which is not typically my favorite type of book. Having known this before going into it, I might not have been disappointed. I also thought there was too much descriptive background that wasn’t necessary/didn’t add value to the story. I was really looking forward to this story, but I felt that the synopsis and descriptions were misleading.
