Saint X is the story of a girl on the brink of adulthood, who disappears and then is found dead while on a family winter vacation to the Caribbean Island of Saint X. What happened to her? How did she end up here she did? Who is responsible?
This novel is written from the point of view of seven year old Claire, whose is the younger sister of Alison, who is found dead. Alison is at the end of her teenage years and trying to find who she is an adult. She is part of the family, yet she is pulling away with some of the decision she makes while they are on this vacation. Claire sees her almost every move and Alison is oblivious to the dangers that lurk on the island.
This story is told through various view points of characters, during the vacation as well as life after Alison's death. Claire has never really gotten over her sisters death, as no one was every held accountable and the police on the island didn't seem to do a thorough enough investigation.
Two resort workers lives are changed forever because of Alison's death, but were they the ones who caused it? Just because they were the last to be seen with her doesn't mean they did anything. Alison was also seen with some other vacationers about her age within the days before- maybe one of them is at fault for what happened to her?
This book took you on a rollercoaster with each chapter, however I was disappointed with the turnout and twist of the novel. I did enjoy the authors writing, and how she would give you just enough to keep you on edge but not yet knowing. However- this is my own opinion and thoughts.
Thank you to Celadon and Bookish first for the arc and opportunity to read and review Saint X.
