This was a great book to bring on vacation to Jamaica! Though the titular island is fictitious, there are definitely very authentic Caribbean vibes in the surrounds and details that really added to the fun while reading it in the sunshine! Despite the colorful cover, this is a dark story that centers around the ripples left after the death of one 18-year-old who goes missing while on vacation with her family.

These ripples extend beyond her family and include also the hotel employees, and the perspectives though mainly of the younger sister, also include other voices - like one employee who is suspected in the death. The style of writing is visual, detailed and the unconventional format offers many new voices that feel unique and are easy to identify. It's an entertaining and fast-paced read!

Claire, Alison's younger sister, is the main narrator and with all of her quirks and focus, she is still easy to identify with. I really enjoyed this one even more than I expected to - and I can see it being a definite discussion starter (especially for book clubbers who vacation together!). I honestly loved the satisfying ending, and expected something much more open-ended. Clive's storyline is particularly tragic and really all of the characters came vividly to life! I can't wait to see what Schaitkin writes next!
