I was sent an ARC from Celadon Book's to review.

I went into this knowing it was one of the most anticipated books for 2020. I also had read earlier reviewed that just seemed all over the place. So, I had my doubts. Thought maybe it was overhyped. I was wrong.

The first chapter had me a little worried, it was overly descriptive and I feared the whole book would be this way. It picked up by the third chapter.

The book is seen through the eyes of Claire and Clive, and bits from smaller characters. Claire and her family vacationed on the Island of Saint X when she was 6, her sister, Alison,18. Claire looked up to her sister, loved her. Alison was very confident and seemed self assured.

On the last night of their vacatiob, Alison disappeared. She was found, drowned on a nearby island, Faraway Cay. Everyone assumed it was a murder. The last people she had been seen with were Edwin and Clive, both worked at the resort.

Years later Claire, now Emily, ends up in Clive taxi. Maybe she will finally find out what actaully happened that night. She strikes up a friendship with Clive that winter, getting close to him, never reveling who she is.

The book was great. I very much enjoyed the story and everything is wrapped up nice and neat. It is a great debut novel!
