This was a really uniquely written novel by a debut author and I look forward to future books. 7 year old Claire and her family including her college aged sister Alison go on vacation to a tropical island resort. Alison goes missing and is later found dead and this is the story of what happened but also how it impacted all involved. The writing style was beautiful and centered largely around Claire and how her life was changed by the loss of her sister. She and her parents move across the country and she starts to go by her middle name Emily. Years later she happens into the cab of one of the last people to see her sister alive, a young man who had been working at the resort. This book focuses on Claire’s perspective but sprinkled through an snippets from all affected.
