This is a book where the entire time you just want to scream at the characters “you need therapy!!!” As reviewers have already said, this is NOT a thriller. It’s definitely a slow burn and focuses on heavily developing characters. Also, don’t let the bright colorful cover and beach title trick you- I would say this book leans a little more towards sad than happy or light. I did not love this book, but I did like it.

I really could not stand Claire/Emily. I don’t want to go too much into detail and give things away, but she spent all this time judging everyone, and really she was the selfish one. Same with her sister. But Clive- I really enjoyed reading his parts. His story pulled at my heart strings. I teared up several times towards the end.

Another thing that made me struggle reading this book was the way it was told. It has two main perspectives, but they seemed to be broken up weirdly. There were also POV thrown in from mentioned characters in 2 page chunks. It was strange to get used to, but I did like having that part. I wish there had just been a little more structure.

I did like the ending, I found it redeeming so that at least made me feel like reading it was worth it! It also had some very good points about what we as a society make out of death and dead people.
