Well, this was an extremely pleasant surprise. I wasn’t expecting much from the start to be honest. Despite the adage of “don’t judge a book by it’s cover,” we all do. I didn’t find the cover engaging upon first glance but I comment on that only because this site asks me to. The summary also left me weary. Whenever a summary points to other books for a comparison, I get instantly critical and when combined with the fact this isn’t really my genre, I almost passed over it. I am glad I didn’t. The tempo of the story is perfect for the writing style and the writing style is unbelievably on point. Great word choices and sentence structure create the environment and tell the story in both a fluid and organized way. The content, from what I have thus far, is engaging and sets the plot up for what can be an incredible story. If the author comes out swinging for the rest of this book, I have no doubt her debut novel will be knocked out of the park. If I don’t win it, I’ll be buying it. If I do win it and the rest is as good as the start, I’ll be buying a copy and donating it to a Little Free Library. This is definitely one to watch for.
