4.5 stars, this would have been an easy 5 were it not for a confusing bit at the end that was ultimately frustrating and unsatisfying.

Local legend has it that if you walk the road with Lucy, she'll grant you one wish. 7 gates to get through, and multiple rules to follow. Sara's sister Becca has been hearing Lucy's voice, and then one night, she disappears. Sara is determined to get her back, and to do that, she'll have to walk the road too. A road that no one sees, or even believe truly exists. Little more than an urban legend, Sara is still set. Shortly before the perfect time for the road to appear, a text message goes out to the entire school population insinuating that Becca may still be alive, a year later. The friend group that fell apart after Becca's disappearance meet back up to support Sara, even though she's been an absentee friend at best. What follows is some of the most deliciously creepy, clever writing I've had my hands on in quite some time. At one point I stopped reading because I had to be up early for work and was so thoroughly chilled by the writing I didn't want to turn my light off. I'm a 35 year old grown a** woman and this book made my skin crawl. Full of gorgeous horror/paranormal imagery, it's one of the most creative books I've read in a long time. My only complaint is toward the end it got super choppy, and while it contributed to the ambiance of the book, it left some very strange unanswered questions that I still haven't figured out what was actually going on. I have absolutely no regrets about reading it though, and I kind of hope this was just the first book so we'll find out what was going on in toward the end. Absolutely frickin' fantastic, I love this book the mostest!
