Last year Kate Alice Marshall gave readers the incredible I Am Still Alive, a wholly original YA survival story. With Rules for Vanishing, she goes in an entirely different, crazy, paranormal direction that left me reeling. I was reading on my kindle with the lights out when I read the last 20% or so of this story and was thoroughly creeped out. The blurbs for this are giving it Blair Witch comparisons which are absolutely apt (different medium but another story that had me afraid to go in the woods). The YA angst in this one does occasionally rear its head, but in general, other than the characters ages, there isn't much that reads as YA in this story. A perfect fall read if you like edge of your seat, paranormal type stories.
