So I listened to this book on audiobook and it was absolutely fascinating and creepy at the same time. I heard it was creepy going in but I didn't really believe it but damn, this book gave me goosebumps.

What really stood out to me regarding this book was how atmospheric and vivid Kate's writing was. I was able to picture pretty much everything and really feel as if I, too, was traveling down the road with Sara and company.

And the plot itself was so immersive and diverse. I loved how each trial/gate presented a new set of challenges and how each one was set in a new location as well. There was a haunted house, creepy town, black as night trail, and so much more. Each new gate and its creepiness was so creative and also brought along a new set of monsters and creatures that Sara and company had to contend with. There were honestly so many plot twists and turns that I simply did not see coming at all and the decisions that they had to continuously face was just...incredible.

I also really enjoyed reading about the characters and how diverse they were as well. There were a lot of representations being represented here which was another element that I liked seeing.

Honestly, this book was unlike any other horror/creepy book I have ever read and I never knew how much I enjoyed these until now. I definitely cannot wait to pick up another of her books soon. Oh, and that ending!! Damn, that was such a plot twist and I was so set on how things would turn out but that blew me away.
