I was not expecting to like this first look, but I was pleasantly surprised. Main character Sara is still reeling from her sister’s disappearance nearly a year ago. She is convinced that Becca’s disappearance is linked to the legend of Lucy Gallows. Lucy is a girl who disappeared in 1953 after wandering into the woods on the morning of her sister’s wedding. Lucy’s ghost is rumored to be seen occasionally.
A mysterious text message is sent to Sara’s entire school a few days before the one year anniversary of Becca’s disappearance. It invites people to play a game by finding a partner and a key among some other things.
I really want to read this book! The characters are very much in high school, but the book is written so compellingly that it will appeal to older readers as well. It’s got a wonderfully creepy tone that will pair well with October and Autumn.
