In Roomies, we have Holland Bakker as the protagonist. A girl with a Bachelor's degree in "Creative Writing" who has a crush on a boy who plays guitar on certain days on the subway in New York. Holland is the niece of Robert, the musical director of the most famous Broadway play at the moment. She works on Broadway as a "merchandise seller" and she is too kind and does things for everyone and for everyone except herself. She lives in her comfort zone because she is afraid that if she writes a book it will fail. When she realizes that she can help her uncle by getting an audition for the mysterious young man on the train, she tries to do something for the greater good, but that includes marrying her crush.

Calvin McLoughlin is an Irish musician who plays certain days on the New York subway, or with bands that invite him to play in bars. one day he saves the pretty girl from an incident on the train and that same girl tries to make his dreams come true. Calvin cannot work for any company, simply due to the fact that his visa has expired he hasn’t been able to renew it. The only way to work and fulfill his dream is to marry the stranger he saved. Calvin is a quiet, mysterious man and makes his family believe that he lives in Ireland, that he is doing really well. He does it because he doesn't want to let his family down and out of pride. He has fallen in love with NY and does not want to go back to his country, because he knows that if he leaves, he is going to end up in a job that he hates.

The book is quite simple and bearable. It is full of romance and a bit of comedy. It isn’t extraordinary but it’s quite entertaining. I liked seeing how the protagonist loves her uncles and the relationship she has with them. I think the authors handle the issue of gay marriage with ease and doesn’t create drama with that, they are a normal couple and for the first time NOBODY in the book throws a tantrum about it and they are treated like any other couple. I also liked seeing how Holland evolves through the book, her character undergoes a change and she gradually realizes that her "best friend" uses her and that she can become someone in life. Without a doubt a book that I really enjoyed and that I recommend.
