I love the marriage of convenience that turns into love trope, so it wasn't hard for this book to please me. Holland was a good main character, but Calvin as well as Holland's uncles were the real stars of the show. Holland isn't as close to her parents as she is her uncles, who are almost like her parents and care for her and love her. Holland has a crush on Calvin from afar who is a musician (and it would have been so easy to make him the jerk musician trope, but he was so sweet!) and one of her uncles is heavily involved in the music scene. She meets Calvin and gets him an in with her uncle, only it turns out that he is living in the US on an expired visa, so they need to get married. Along the way, of course, sparks fly! Their relationship was cute. Another great thing about this book is that Holland works on her future (she feels stuck working a mediocre job and wants to get back into writing) but also learning about how some people who had been in important roles in her life can be toxic. This book was short, but it didn't feel rushed.
